Madrid Río - What to do and see at the Madrid Rio Park
Madrid Río

Madrid Río

Along the 10 km stretch of Madrid Río, you can enjoy cycling, running, and other sports, relax on the grass, or enjoy the views from its viewpoints.

The construction of the M-30 motorway meant that the South of Madrid suddenly was packed, and it separated the urban centre from the Manzanares river, which was historically an important recreational space for locals. The solution to this problem as Madrid Rio, a major park which lies along a 10 km stretch of the river.

Madrid Río

Although Madrid has a wide variety of parks and gardens, each one offers something distinctly different to the capital. Madrid Río has a bit of everything, it's a perfect place to play sport, take a walk, or enjoy a picnic.

It's got plenty of playgrounds for children with swings made from recycled materials. And in summer, this park is the place to be, with the water jets cooling off visitors on the 'beach' and concerts and other cultural activities during the night.

And from Puente de Segovia, you'll get some incredible views of the Almudena Cathedral and the Royal Palace.

Nearby Attractions

Near to Madrid Rio is the Madrid Matadero, an old slaughterhouse which has been converted into a cultural space. If you want to enjoy a day of shopping in Madrid, the Rio 2 shopping centre is just around the corner, one of the largest in the capital.
