Madrid Mysteries & Legends Tour
The old quarter of Madrid is home to great mysteries and legends... Let's discover them with this incredible guided tour of the Spanish capital!
Madrid Mysteries & Legends Tour
"Stop there, show your faces." "What is your purpose in the Town and Court?" The guards who protected one of the gates to the capital of Spain had to keep a close eye on who was entering the city. Many of them didn't even have time to draw their weapons before... Boom. Pam. Dead! With a shot of the arquebus. That's how the criminals were dealt with by the guards of the entrances to Madrid. The old gate gave way over time to the current Pontejos Square, where we'll meet at the scheduled time to start our tour.
From Plaza de Pontejos, we'll head to the nearby Plaza de la Provincia. There, in front of the monumental building of the Palace of Santa Cruz (current headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), we'll talk about Madrid's underground, which is one of the most popular means of transport in the Spanish capital.
Next, we'll make our way to the La Latina neighbourhood, which is one of the oldest in Madrid. We'll pass through the Plaza de Puerta Cerrada and then stop at Cebada Market and the San Isidro Museum the discuss the city's origins and the miracles of Madrid's patron saint.
Our route will then take us to the Segovia Viaduct. After learning about the tragic suicides that have taken place on this bridge, we'll continue our tour to the Almudena Cathedral. As we admire this building from the outside, we'll discuss a legend that dates back to the 19th century. Just a few metres away, we'll also pause in front of the Royal Palace to discover a dark legend...
Finally, after a 2-hour tour, we'll finish our activity in front of the Royal Monastery of La Encarnación to discuss a unique saint. We'll also travel back in time to the era of the Spanish Inquisition to round off our tour with a surprising tale...
