Cuenca Day Trip + Cathedral Visit
Tour Details
We'll meet at the scheduled time at Plaza Conde Casal in Madrid to begin this trip to Cuenca. We'll hop on a bus that will take us to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed city.
Once we arrive, we'll take a panoramic bus tour of the Hoz del Huécar, a geographical accident that formed a canyon where the Hanging Houses, St. Peter's Convent and the Posada de San José stand today.
We'll then make our way to the neighbourhood of Castillo, where we'll begin a walking tour of Cuenca. We'll see Plaza Mayor and make our way towards the city's most iconic monument, the Nuestra Señora de Gracia Cathedral.
Hunrgy yet? Once we have discovered the jewels of the Cathedral of Cuenca, you'll have 1.5 hours of free time to have lunch around the Plaza Mayor, where you'll find restaurants of all kinds to enjoy the local gastronomy.
Afterwards, we'll visit the famous Hanging Houses, where the Museum of Abstract Art is located. We'll be able to enjoy an authentic space dedicated to Spanish art from the 20th century and see works by Chillida, Feito, Canogar, Oteiza, Millares and Tapies, among other artists.
That evening, we'll return to the bus and bring this trip to an end once we arrive back at the starting point after 9 hours together.
What Will We See in Cuenca Cathedral?
Cuenca Cathedral is one of the most important monuments in the city of La Mancha, full of curiosities, history and architectural treasures that will leave you fascinated from every angle.
To begin with, we'll take a look at its imposing façade, Gothic in style but with marked French influences. La Seo, dating from the 12th century, was built over what was once the Arab mosque and can boast of being the first Gothic cathedral built in Castile.
Once inside the Cuenca Cathedral, you'll be impressed by the effect of the light coming through its stained-glass windows. During the visit to the Nuestra Señora de Gracia Cathedral, you'll discover some of its hidden treasures, such as the Renaissance cloister, its stained-glass windows, the high altar and the Sagrario Chapel.
